Next Project...

My next project is.....

drumroll, please....

LIFE BOOKS!

I am starting two life books for our munchkins. Life books are like baby books, but for adopted kids. Our munchkins have HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE missing pieces in their history. It is our job to help them know their story. As much of their story as we have, anyway.

So I am starting with the big life books ~ the books that will also include every single uncomfortable detail that we have. These big books will sit on a shelf or in a box and wait. And wait. And wait. They will wait until the boys are older and can better understand the answers to those difficult questions. It breaks my heart for them that they will never know so much about their stories.

I am also going to make shorter books that they can each have right away. Books with basic information that our families and friends will know too. Pictures of people they knew in China. Fun facts about each of our family members. Simple books with wipe-off pages for little fingerprints. These pages will tell their stories, to help them connect their China life to their American life.

After we travel, we will have LOTS more pictures to add. We'll have pictures of THE FIRST TIME WE MEET OUR KIDS (thank you, Lord! that will be the coolest day), our travels in China, the areas where they live now, and pictures from the disposable cameras we have been sending. Those pictures will fill much of the books.

We ask God for wisdom to guard the boys' stories when we need to, and for the right words to tell our boys their life stories in an age-appropriate, loving, respectful way.

Hebrews 11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

  1. I'd love to follow your process in this. I've been looking at one website I found that sells a lifebook, but haven't decided if I should buy it or try to put them together on my own. What are you thinking of so far? Any good ideas or resources? Can't wait to see what you come up with!
